Overview view count doesn't match bandwidth usage view count

On the Overview page, it shows total views of 15. Below that in usage it shows 201 plays. Why the discrepancy?

    Hi,
This is a bug that we are aware of and are working hard to have resolved shortly. The bandwidth is correct and the bug will be fixed by next week.
    Thanks,
    Ian

Thanks, this info is critical for helping keep within usage limits.

We weren't expecting so many views, and need to know which videos are taking up the most bandwidth so we don't go over our limit. Currently each video shows only a handful of views, so we don't know what to do.

Is there any other way to get individual video view stats? By API maybe?

If you have a Google Analytics account you can use this feature which will give you the detail you are looking for and more.

Thanks for info on G.A. Great to have that data. Much appreciated.

    Unfortunately the data is incorrect.

The total video views showing for each video matches the numbers added for 25%, 50%, 75%, & 100%.

BUT, it's also counting ajax hits to your server for /frameGrabLoaded & /loading. These might be the total video loads, but not plays. And because /frameGrabLoaded & /loading have the same number of hits, it's doubling the count.

So it looks like Bandwidth stats show total embeds, not actual total plays.

The BIG question is, how much is loaded just for the embed? The actual buffering doesn't start until play is clicked. So embeds shouldn't take up as much bandwidth as being shown in stats.

Thank you for your continued support.

    Hi There

The GA stats are not designed to show total number of plays across all your videos. The way it works is that we send a notification to GA ever time a player event occurs (frame load, play to 75%, volume change, etc). this helps you analyse each videos activity, but not the aggregate. You can most likely set up a filter to only show you the "play" hits.

The view counts (both on vzaar videos page and GA) currently show view counts for the player only. This doesn't account for iPad/Iphone/Podcast views.

The BANDWIDTH figures shows the exact BW used for the month. This is directly from our data logs and is the BW consumed by the view. So if a viewer only buffers 50% of a 200MB video, we only record 100MB of data used. To this we also add data for when a player is loaded which is about 120kb and data for each time a poster image is shown (depends on the video by 5-15k)

So an embed loads about 130kb on average.

A full video play takes up the size of the video.

I hope that makes more sense?

    Adrian

Adrian, thanks for explaining & thank you for your patience. The GA tracking makes sense now.

So are the individual video view counts and the bandwidth usage correct? With the bandwidth total view count being incorrect (too high)?

Is there anyways to see bandwidth usage by video?

I love vzaar so far, but my main concern before I migrate all videos over is that if we have unexpected spikes in bandwidth, I can easily track down what video(s) are causing it.

Maybe this won't even be an issue once the view count bug is resolved next week.

The individual video views are normally lower than reality as it doesn’t count iPad/iPhone views. This should be corrected next week.

Currently their is no way to see BW usage by video, but we are looking to overhaul this. Generally if you multiple play counts by BW this will mostly correlate.

If you have any specific concerns on spikes feel free to drop me a support reuqest on here and I can pull back a BW per video report for you, and we can look into it.

Checking back in. It's been about 5 weeks, and the bug that was supposed to be fixed in one week still hasn't been fixed.

Also, are iPhone/iPad views being counted yet?

I had to upgrade my account today, and it was frustrating that I could not accurately determine which videos are eating up the bandwidth.

Would feel much better about the monthly subscription if we had individual video bandwidth info so I can audit bandwidth usage.

Other than the vague and buggy bandwidth reporting, everything else about Vzaar has been wonderful. Love the new multiple file upload. Good work guys!

    Hi There.

I note that I have responded to another query of yours today relating to our bandwidth cycles.

We appreciate your comments about the need to improve our reporting statistics. It is definitely on our priority list to attend to.

Unfortunately we are not counting the iphone plays yet but we're on the case in trying to improve this too.

In the interim, if you would like monthly statistics emailed across to you we can provide this for you. Please let me know if this will help.

I'm glad you are happy with your overall vzaar experience.

    Many Thanks

I appreciate the offer for monthly statistics emailed, and will happily take you up on it. Looking for videos that use most bandwidth and referral URL (or where they're being embedded).

    thank you.
